ANTIOCH – After a nearly two-month investigation, Antioch police have charged Antioch Community High School teacher Sara Glashagel, 27, of Elk Grove Village, for tampering with students' grades, according to a release.
Glashagel was charged with computer tampering, a Class A misdemeanor. She is currently released on bond and next due in Lake County court on Dec. 9.
Antioch police originally responded to the school on Sept. 28 regarding a possible breach of the school's database, according to the release. School officials had been notified by a teacher that several students' grades had been changed, at which point they sought the assistance of Antioch police.
Responding to reports that some of the students whose grades were changed were athletes on the Antioch Community High School football team, Illinois High School Association executive director Marty Hickman said in a release that the IHSA continues to monitor the situation.
"Our preliminary discussions with Antioch [Community] High School indicate that no ineligible players participated in any contests as a result of this situation," he said in the release. "We will continue to monitor the situation and work accordingly in the event that new information is brought to light."
The investigation, which included numerous interviews with staff and information technology personnel, as well as subpoenas of records, revealed that Glashagel was responsible, according to the release. Investigators determined that on five separate occasions, Glashagel gained unauthorized access to the computer database and on each occasion changed numerous students' grades. Glashagel admitted to police that she targeted students who were on the ineligibility list, according to the release.
A Class A misdemeanor is punishable by up to one year in jail and/or a fine of up to $2,500 upon conviction.
