Gail Ann Hyslop

VERONA, Ill. — Mrs. Howard (Gail Ann) Hyslop, 71, of Verona, Ill., passed away Sunday evening, Oct. 16, 2011, at the Asta Care of Bloomington in Bloomington, Ill., with her family at her bedside.

Born Feb. 18, 1940, in Greenbrier, Tenn., she was the daughter of the late Vernon R. and Edith (Webb) Cook. At an early age, she moved with her family to the Morris area, where she was raised and educated, graduating from Mazon High School with the Class of 1958.

On Nov. 7, 1959, Gail married Howard Hyslop and they made their home in Verona. Gail worked as a scale keeper with River Industry for many years and was also the Vienna Township clerk for 15 years. She also kept her husband's books for the Hyslop Garage in Verona.

Gail enjoyed gardening and loved going to Curves for Women regardless of whether she was on vacation or just in another town. She and her husband began traveling to Arizona and Las Vegas in 1979, and continued those trips through 2007.

She was a member of the Verona Methodist Church in Verona.

Surviving is her husband of 53 years and two daughters, Deborah (Steven) Wyland of Plainfield, Ill., and Janet (Daniel) Landstrom of Odell, Ill.; nine grandchildren, Amanda Wyland, Zachary Anderle, Timothy Wyland, Rachel Anderle, Benjaman Wyland, Dylan Wyland, Anna, Caroline and Zechariah Landstrom; one sister, E. Frances (Bob Hank) Kodat of Dwight; and two brothers, Donald (Connie) of Texas and James (Linda) of Arizona.

She was preceded in death by her parents and one brother, Gary Cook.

Visitation for Gail will be from 4 to 7 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 19, at the U. C. Davis & Sons Funeral Home, Ltd., in Morris. Funeral services will be at 10:30 a.m. Thursday, Oct. 20, in U. C. Davis & Sons Funeral Home, with Pastor Don Leonard of New Life Christian Center officiating. Burial will be in Ward Cemetery in Verona.

Memorials may be made in Gail's name to Ward Cemetery Association or the Pontiac Christian School.
