STERLING – A Sterling man was in the Whiteside County Jail on a $200,000 bond Friday after police say he sexually abused a minor in March and September.
Steven J. Guzman, 32, was arrested around 10:49 p.m. Thursday at his home, 1307 Harvey Drive, and charged with five counts of aggravated criminal sexual abuse.
Guzman also is charged with unlawful possession of drug paraphernalia, a misdemeanor, following a search of the home.
He has a preliminary hearing Thursday.
Sterling Police Sgt. Steve Hubbard said police were contacted by the parents of the minor, who is between the ages of 13 and 17, in late September.
The two, who met through a friend, began having a “sexual relationship” in March, Hubbard said.
During the investigation, police received a tip that drugs may be in Guzman’s house.
Sterling Police, along with officers from Dixon and the Blackhawk Area Task Force, searched Guzman’s home Thursday night and found drug paraphernalia, Hubbard said.
Several items were sent to the Illinois State Police crime lab. More charges are pending against Guzman and his wife, Susanna, 33, according to Hubbard.
Susanna Guzman, also known as Susan Congdon, was arrested on an outstanding warrant for failure to appear on a traffic offense.
