Coroner: Morrison woman died of natural causes

MORRISON – A 49-year-old Morrison woman whose body was found on a street in February died of a heart attack, Whiteside County Coroner Joe McDonald said Tuesday.

Jan Crossman had a heart condition that may have been aggravated by the cold, McDonald said.

A toxicology report showed that Crossman had therapeutic levels of several prescription medications, such as anticonvulsants and antidepressants, in her blood, and a blood alcohol level of .065, below the legal limit to operate a vehicle.

McDonald said it is difficult to conclude whether the medications or the alcohol played a role in her death.

A bank’s cleaning crew found her body outside the building around 5:30 a.m. Feb. 14.

The mystery of how Crossman got there remains. Morrison Police Chief Brian Melton said there have been very few leads in the case and he still does not know what she was doing or where she had been the night she died.

Anyone with information on her whereabouts that night is asked to call police at 815-772-7650.
