WESTERN SPRINGS – An official in suburban Chicago has died after an apparent fall from a water tower in the village where he worked.
Authorities say 41-year-old William Nelson of Downers Grove was found unresponsive Monday afternoon at the foot of a village water tower in Western Springs. He was pronounced dead at the scene. The Cook County Medical Examiner's Office says the death was accidental and caused by multiple injuries from a fall.
Nelson was deputy village manager and director of municipal services. His duties included overseeing the water department. Deputy Police Chief Brian Budds says Nelson was alone at the time of the accident. It's not clear why he tried to climb the tower.
