Staff Sgt. Justus Bartelt

POLO – Staff Sgt. Justus S. Bartelt, 27, of Polo, died Friday, July 16, 2010, while supporting combat operations in Helmand province, Afghanistan. He was assigned to 2nd Battalion, 6th Marine Regiment, 2nd Marine Division, II Marine Expeditionary Force, Camp Lejeune, N.C.

He was born, July 4, 1983, in Dixon, the son of Steven Bartelt and Jeannie (Bartelt) Kyker.

Survivors include his father, Steven; mother, Jeannie (Kendall) Kyker; sisters, Shayann and Simber Bartelt, and Kellen Kyker; grandparents, Joann and Farrel Wright, Bob and Delores Massey, Richard and Mary Ellen Rowland, and John (Adrienne Hiatt) Bartelt; and great-grandmother, Ruby Rowland.

He was preceded in death by his grandmother, Linda Bartelt; and sister, Vanaca Jo.

The funeral will be at 1 p.m. Sunday at Polo Community High School, with Pastor Sally Chipman officiating. Burial will be at Fairmount Cemetery, Polo. Visitation will be from 2 to 7 p.m. Saturday at the high school.

In lieu of flowers, memorials have been established to the Honor Flight Program and Polo United Methodist Church.
