Aurora woman's shopping spree with stolen credit cards ends with jail

GENEVA – An Aurora woman went into a Batavia fitness center's gym, searching for unsecured lockers in order to steal wallets, police said.

She took two wallets, one belonging to a St. Charles resident and another belonging to an Elburn resident, police said, and used their credit cards to buy food, toys, electronics and clothes.

And then, according to Batavia and Geneva police reports, she bought nearly $600 in clothing from four stores, $130 in electronics and $35 worth of toys from two other stores and $63 worth of food from two restaurants in those two cities.

But when Faith E. Cors, 21, of the 900 block of W. Galena Boulevard, tried to return three of the tops she bought from Old Navy, 1572 S. Randall Road on Friday, June 11, Geneva Police arrested her.

Cors is now being held in the Kane County Jail on $20,000 bond, charged with felony unlawful use of a credit card, misuse of a credit card and two counts of theft for the Batavia incidents and felony unlawful use of a credit card for the Geneva incidents.

Cors' next court date is Wednesday, June 30, officials said. The Kane County Public Defender's office said it will represent her.

Batavia Police Det. Mark Kowalewski said Cors went into Xsport Fitness, 81 N. Randall Road on June 1 to search through lockers.

"She took two wallets and other personal items from unsecured lockers," Kowalewski said.

"Then she used two different victims' credit cards to make purchases."

According to police, on Tuesday, June 8, Cors went to Chuck E. Cheese, 511 N. Randall Road and bought $43 worth of food and then went to The Chalkboard & Toy Town, 381 North Randall Road, and bought $35 worth of toys on a stolen credit card.

On Wednesday, June 9, Cors then went to Radio Shack, 21 N. Randall Road, and bought $130 worth of items and to Tri City Sports, 57 S. Randall Road, and bought $100 worth of clothing, Kowalewski said, also using a stolen credit card.

The same day, Cors continued her shopping spree at Geneva Commons with a stolen credit card, police said.

According to police reports, Cors went to Famous Footwear, 1530 S. Randall Road, and charged $87.97 worth of clothes; the Finish Line, 518 Commons Drive, and charged $207.46 in socks and shoes; Old Navy, 1572 S. Randall Road, and charged $185.43 worth of clothes; and to Corner Bakery Café, 1614 Commons Drive, where she charged $20.10 worth of food.

Kowalewski said Cors' charges were upgraded to felony because of a previous conviction for forgery.

According to Kane County court records, Cors was charged with forgery last year in connection with writing three checks to herself for $180 on others' accounts. She was assigned alternative court treatment, but was withdrawn from the program, records show, because she did not attend drug treatment meetings and was charged with new criminal offenses.

In January, she was charged with electronic harassment, but the charges were dropped when the complaining witness did not come to court, records show.

Records also show Cors was charged with retail theft in 2004 when she was 15 and in 2006 when she was 17.
