The latest U.S. Geological Survey analysis places Wednesday morning's 3.8-magnitude earthquake at a depth of 3.1 miles.

The latest epicenter estimate from the USGS is 1 mile south-southeast of Pingree Grove in northern Kane County.

Other earthquakes from the surrounding area, according to the ISGS:

• 2004: LaSalle County with a magnitude of 4.2: The USGS indicated the epicenter for this earthquake was 10 miles northwest of Ottawa and was felt as far north as Wisconsin and as far south as Missouri. That quake rattled some windows in DeKalb County at 1:11 a.m. on June 28, 2004.

• 1999: Lee County with a magnitude of 3.5: This earthquake was centered near Dixon, according to the ISGS. Many residents in the Dixon area felt the ground shake and mistook it for a quarry blast, the ISGS said.

• 1985: DuPage County with a magnitude of 3.0

• 1972: Lee County with a magnitude of 4.5

• 1947: Kane County with a magnitude of 3.1

• 1944: Kane County with a magnitude of 2.7

• 1912: Kendall County with a magnitude of 4.7: According to USGS Web site, this quake was felt most in Aurora, Freeport, Morris, and Yorkville. Slight damage to chimneys was reported in Batavia and Geneva. Two distinct shocks were observed at some places. The stronger shock also was felt in parts of Indiana, Iowa, Kentucky (Fulton County), and Wisconsin.

• 1909: Will County with a magnitude of 5.1: According to the USGS Web site, this earthquake has been related to the La Salle anticline in the Illinois Basin. Many chimneys fell, a stove overturned, and gas line connections broke at Aurora, west of Chicago. Several chimneys were downed at Forreston, Naperville, Streator, Triumph, and Troy Grove, and one fell at Waukegan. Brick walls cracked at Bloomington, and sidewalks cracked and many chimneys were damaged at Freeport. It was felt from Missouri to Michigan and Minnesota to Indiana.
