2,168 deer harvested during Chronic Wasting Disease/ Late-Winter seasons

During the first segment of the 2020-2021 Chronic Wasting Disease (CWD) and Late-Winter (LW) firearm deer seasons (Dec. 31, 2020-Jan. 3, 2021), Illinois deer hunters harvested a preliminary total of 2,168 deer.

Harvest in CWD counties consisted of 264 males and 356 females (183 antlered, 437 antlerless). Harvest in Late-Winter counties is restricted to antlerless deer.

The CWD and Late-Winter firearm deer seasons – open in select counties only – will conclude January 15-17.

In response to rising positivity rates of COVID-19 and in an effort to help ensure the health and safety of Illinois hunters and Illinois Department of Natural Resources (IDNR) staff, the IDNR today announced the closure of all deer check stations during the upcoming firearm deer hunting seasons, slated for Nov. 20 to Nov. 22 and Dec. 3 to Dec. 6. Preliminary county harvest totals in area counties (with season in parentheses) included:

• La Salle (CWD) 96

• Grundy (CWD) 27

• Livingston (CWD) 21

• Putnam (LW) 15

• DeKalb (CWD) 11

• Kendall (CWD) 4
