Opposing groups on abortion march at Washington Square in Ottawa

Initial march organized to protest Texas’s new abortion law

Stand with Planned Parenthood marched Thursday night at Washington Square in Ottawa in support of local Planned Parenthood agencies and reproductive rights.

The march is organized to protest Texas’s new abortion law that bans abortions after six weeks and gives Texans the power to sue abortion providers, which the U.S. Supreme Court voted, 5-4, to uphold the law in a partisan majority.

A federal judge Wednesday, however, blocked enforcement of Texas’ new abortion law, granting an emergency request from the Justice Department.

Pro-life groups held a counter rally at Washington Square.

The Stand with Planned Parenthood rally was scheduled Saturday, but was moved to Saturday after rain was in the forecast.
