Grand jury indicts Michigan man for shooting at Oglesby police

Oglesby man also indicted in unauthorized video case

A La Salle County grand jury has indicted a Michigan man for shooting at Oglesby police Dec. 29.

Peter Bergsma, 35, was indicted Tuesday on two counts of aggravated discharge of a firearm and unlawful possession of a stolen motor vehicle. He is being held in La Salle County Jail on $1 million.

Bergsma, who faces up to 45 years in prison, was charged after he fled from Oglesby police and allegedly fired a semiautomatic pistol in the direction of two officers. Bergsma then got in the squad car and drove away. He abandoned the vehicle and was taken into custody after a brief search.

Bergsma will next appear Thursday before Chief Judge H. Chris Ryan Jr.

The grand jury also indicted an Oglesby man was charged Dec. 30 for allegedly placing a “spy camera” in an employee bathroom of a Peru business.

Drew Meredith, 21, of Oglesby, was indicted on one count of making an unauthorized video recording, a Class 4 felony carrying 1 to 3 years in prison. He is free on $5,000 bond. His will next appear Thursday before Judge Cynthia M. Raccuglia.

Also indicted Tuesday were: Carolyn Morgan, 31, of Streator (unlawful possession of a controlled substance); Dwayne Brewer, 53, of Wenona (two counts of aggravated DUI); Loretta Libby, 33, of Streator (driving while revoked); Tiara Gaines, 27, of Mendota (two counts of driving while revoked); Elijah Fortson, 35, of Streator (harassment by telephone); Stephanie Tanner, 32, of Ottawa (two counts of unlawful possession of a controlled substance); Katherine Bolden, 28, of Ottawa (unlawful possession of a controlled substance); Brian Baze, 43, of Ottawa (criminal damage to property); Lashawn Chandler, 49, of Streator (driving while revoked); Brandon Atkinson, 38, of Peru (unlawful possession of a weapon by a felon); Jeremy Rosales, 40, of Streator (domestic battery); Damon Ward, 22, of Charleston (unlawful delivery of a look-alike substance); Matthew Hughes, 37, of Ottawa (two counts of unlawful delivery of a controlled substance); Joshua Sampson, 32, of Marseilles (unlawful delivery of a controlled substance); Travis Ford, 36, of Streator (unlawful delivery of a controlled substance); Ashley Houch, 30, of Streator (unlawful delivery of a controlled substance); Gabrielle Nash, 30, of Streator (two counts of unlawful delivery of a controlled substance); Jonathon Thieme, 25, of Streator (unlawful delivery of a controlled substance).
