OTTAWA - The Ottawa Pirates boys tennis team celebrated its senior day in style Thursday, defeating Morris 4-1 at OHS’s King Field Courts to remain unbeaten against I-8 competition.
All three of the squad’s seniors — Tanner Ditchfield, Regan Linde and Sam Walker — contributed doubles wins, Walker and Linde 6-0, 7-5 at No. 1, and Will Goetz and Ditchfield 6-3, 6-1 at No. 2.
The No. 3 doubles team of Daniel Reinhardt and Logan Goetsch (6-1, 6-2) and Adam Gross at No. 2 singles (6-3, 6-2) also scored victories.
Girls track and field
Streator 93, Coal City 28: At the SHS Athletic Fields, the host kept rolling with the IC8 victory.
Scoring events wins for Streator were Rilee Talty (:13.2 in 100), Cassie Simons (:29.3 in 200; 4.16 in long jump), Lily Kupec (1:11.6 in 400), Abby Pierce (:17.9 in 100 hurdles; :54.4 in 300 hurdles), Lana Krohe (11.22 meters in shot put; 26.60 in discus), Marissa Vickers (1.32 in high jump; 7.90 in triple jump), the 400 relay team of Simons, Jeneice White, Cherish Frederick-Jordan and Talty (:57.0), the 1600 team of Kupec, Abby Seaton, Stephanie Mendoza and Kiley Rhodes (6:13.7) and 3200 relayers Sara Reed, Mendoza, Seaton and Kupec (15:01.3).
Fieldcrest runs to trio of wins: At Mackinaw, Fieldcrest scored wins in the 800 courtesy of Claire Phillips (2:59.00), the 300 hurdles from Carol Megow (:52.76) and the shot put from Calli Nix (31 feet, 5 inches).
Boys track and field
Coal City 66, Streator 62: At Streator, the hosts lost a close IC8 meet despite event triumphs from Collin Jeffries (:24.8 in 200), Kody Danko (:55.6 in 400), Ryan Seaton (13:04.0 in 3200), Dustin Vernon (10.48 meters in shot put), Dewayne Nutall (1.63 in high jump), the 3200 relay team of Nick Adams, Danko, Trevor Mitts and Kevin Parr (12:44.8), the 800 team of Brant Freese, Harley Kosur, Seaton and Vernon (2:53.1) and the 400 relayers Cade Stevens, Aneefy Ford, Nutall and Amarion Ford (:45.7).
Stoeger sets new record: At Mackinaw, Fieldcrest’s Mason Stoeger set a new stadium record in the 1600 with a run of 4:30.78.
Also winning events for the Knights were Christian Skaggs (2:11.44 in 800) and the 1600 (3:41.93) and 3200 (8:42.00) relay teams.
Wrestling
Erie 37, Sandwich 33; Sycamore 41, Sandwich 21: In a triangular, the Indians stayed close but dropped both meets despite two-win performances from Kadi Kern (pinfall, forfeit at 120), Evan Reilly (two pinfalls at 126) and Aidan Linden (tech. fall at 160, 4-0 dec. at 152).
Seneca 51, Prairie Central 17; Seneca 66, Dee-Mack 15: At Fairbury, the Fighting Irish won their 18th and 19th straight duals.
Leading the way with two-victory performances were Ashler Hamby at 138 (two forfeits), Owen Feiner at 132 (10-5 dec., forfeit), Nate Olson at 126 (two forfeits), Kyler hahn at 113 (two forfeits) and Luke Sangston at 106 (default, first-period pinfall).
Will Milton at 152 (pinfall) and Wilson Widman at 145 (pinfall) also added contested victories.
Softball
Sandwich 7, Rochelle 6: At Rochelle, Alyssa Cassie had a triple, a two-run homer and four RBIs to pace the Indians to the I-8 road win.
Grace Donahue and Hannah Limon each added two hits and an RBI, Lily Geltz tagged three hits, and Donahue (4 IP, 0 R, 3 K) and Maggie Knepper (3 IP, 1 ER, 3 K) worked in the circle.
Seneca 11, Putnam Co. 0 (5 inn.); Seneca 16, Putnam Co. 2 (5 inn.): In Tri-County play, the Irish (15-3, 8-0) swept the Panthers with pitching wins coming from Maggie Carpenter (5 IP, 0 R, 13 K) and Taya Roe (5 IP, 2 ER, 3 K).
Mallory Othon homered in the opener, with Sam Vandevelde homering in the nightcap.
Marquette 1, Henry-Senachwine 0: At Gross Field, Kaylee Killelea (7 IP, 0 R, 14 K) tossed the two-hit shutout to lead Marquette (7-2).
The Crusaders scored their run in the second, with Addie McConnaughhay reaching and scoring on a Miah Ferracuti double.
Streator 6, Morris 5: In non-conference play, the Bulldogs received two doubles from Maci Byers, two hits and three RBIs from Mia Wyatt and a complete-game pitching performance from Jaelyn Blakemore (7 IP, 5 R, 6 K) for the victory.
Jadyn Hansen and Faith Clift provided three hits apiece, with Kadence Ondrey adding a pair of hits as well.
Baseball
Roanoke-Benson 15, WFC 4: At Woodland, the Warriors were in a one-run game until the Rockets scored nine in the top of the seventh.
Ethan Schumm was dealt the pitching loss. Carter Ewing (three hits including a double), Xander Boyles (two singles, double, RBI) and Nolan Bressi (two singles, two RBIs) led the WFC attack.
Serena 11, Leland 1: At Leland, the visiting Huskers saw Dylan Cartwright go 5-for-5 with a double and two RBIs, Conner Holdiman 3-for-4 with two RBIs and Hunter Linder doubling and driving home two in the Little Ten victory.
Cam Figgins (3 IP, 1 ER, 7 K), Todd Smith (2 IP, 0 R, 3 K) and Bryce Shannon (2 IP, 0 R, 3 K) teamed up on the mound for Serena (8-12, 8-2).
Earlville 9, Hinckley-Big Rock 1: In Little Ten play, Davis Sweeney (7 IP, 0 ER, 15 K) dealt the win for the Red Raiders. Griffin Cook and Noah Lemke provided two hits apiece, with Byar Keller driving home two runs.
Putnam Co. 5, Seneca 3; Putnam Co. 1, Seneca 0: In a TCC twin bill, the Irish dropped a pair of close ones, with Gage Cryder (2/3 IP, 2 ER, 1 K) in relief of Matt Cruise (5 2/3 IP, 2 ER, 11 K) and Ethan Brockman (6 IP, 0 ER, 7 K) suffering the pitching defeats.
Brayden Roe and Tyler Sulzberger (RBI) had two hits each in the opener. Doubles from Cole Hintze and Sulzberger were two of Seneca’s three hits in the nightcap.
Newark 2, Somonauk 1: At Newark, Dalton Reibel (5 2/3 IP, 1 R, 7 K) pitched the win for Newark (12-1, 9-0), with Tegan Kruser (1 1/3 IP, 0 R) notching the save. Tegan Kruser, Mitch Kruser and Joe Martin all had multiple hits for the Norsemen.
Brendan Roberts (6 IP, 1 ER, 8 K) was dealt the hard-luck loss. Justin Lee singled and drove in a Somonauk (4-6, 4-4) run.
Frosh/soph boys tennis
Ottawa 5, Morris 0: At Ottawa, Sebastian Cabrera (8-3), Karcin Hagi (8-0) and the doubles teams of Ethan Hancock/Zander Houk (8-3), Taegeon Eom/Ethan Cela (8-4) and Landen Thorsen/Rylan Salas (8-1) won for the Corsairs (7-0, 4-0).
