Joliet Central’s new track and the best running day of the year conspired to send a battalion of runners, jumpers and throwers to next weekend’s 3A state championship.
Area teams including Marmion Academy, Rock Falls, Sandwich, Sterling, Dixon, Mendota, Plano, Sycamore, Wheaton Academy and St. Francis were at Sycamore High School Thursday to compete in the IHSA Class 2A boys track sectional.

Wheaton North overcame a sluggish first half to down host DeKalb 57-44 in Monday’s second Class 4A DeKalb Regional semifinal. DeKalb’s tenacious defense had the Falcons trailing the Barbs, 25-24 at halftime. In the second half, the Falcons found their inside game.
The DeKalb girls basketball met Wheaton North in the Class 4A regional at DeKalb High School.
After the Barbs dominated the offensive glass in the first half, Greta Dani and the Red Devils solidified their inside presence and held off a DeKalb rally for a 56-51 win on Thursday in the regular-season finale for both teams.
