Sandwich’s Braden Behringer strikes out 12 in complete-game win: Wednesday’s Record Newspapers sports roundup

Baseball

Sandwich 4, Serena 2

Braden Behringer struck out 12 in a complete-game three-hitter and Griffin Somlock was 2 for 2 with a double and an RBI for Sandwich (3-6-1).

Oswego 8, Ottawa 0

Jax Baker and Nolan Hutchings combined on a two-hit shutout with 11 strikeouts and Caleb Miller was 2 for 4 with a double and a run scored for Oswego (4-4). Dylan Doogs drove in three runs.

Plano 4, Brillion 3

Julian Gates doubled in Justin Bishop, who also doubled, in the bottom of the ninth as the Reapers (4-4-1) walked off with a win.

Nathan Tunt went 3 for 4 with a run scored and an RBI, Bishop was 2 for 4 with two doubles and two runs scored and Quentin Santoria was 2 for 3 with a double, triple and RBI.

Geneva 11, Plano 0

Braylon Schmidt had the Reapers’ lone hit.

Softball

Yorkville 15, West Springfield 2

Alyssa Muhlbach and Callie Ferko had inside-the-park home runs in Yorkville’s five-run first inning and the Foxes (6-4) poured it on with 10 runs in the second.

Ferko was 3 for 3 with the homer, triple, two runs scored and three RBIs and Liv Lathen had a double, two runs scored and two RBIs.

Serena 14, Sandwich 5

Kayden Corneils was 3 for 4 with a double, run scored and an RBI and Abigail Johnson was 2 for 3 with two runs scored for Sandwich (3-3).
