Meets twice a week at 6 p.m. from May 12-28

Bishop Louis Tylka of the Catholic Diocese of Peoria blesses the main entrance on Thursday, Oct. 31, 2024 at OSF HealthCare Saint Elizabeth Medical Center in Peru.

OSF HealthCare and the Illinois Valley Community College Continuing Education Center are offering a free, three-week program in American Sign Language and baby sign, according to an IVCC news release.

The program is open to families, beginners, and deaf or hard-of-hearing individuals. No prior experience is needed.

The program takes place from 6-7 p.m. on Tuesdays and Thursdays between May 12 and May 28 at the OSF Saint Elizabeth Medical Center in Peru.

According to the release, participants will gain practical communication skills, including signs used in everyday life and health care settings, and learn foundational signs covering basic communication, emotions, and health-related terms, helping to foster connection, understanding, and accessibility for all.

Accommodations, including ASL interpreters, are available upon request.

Registration is required for each session.
