A Henry County man is headed to prison for four years after pleading guilty Thursday to hauling fentanyl-laced heroin on Interstate 80 near Ottawa.
Lukas A. Beckman, 22, of Orion, was charged following a Feb. 10, 2025, traffic stop in which La Salle County deputies yielded an unspecified quantity of heroin, listed only in court records as between 15 grams and 100 grams.
He could have faced an elevated sentencing range of nine to 33 years after a lab detected fentanyl in the contraband.
Beckman, however, had no prior criminal history, which led to a negotiated plea entered on Thursday in La Salle County Circuit Court. La Salle County prosecutors filed a reduced possession charge, a Class 1 felony carrying four to 15 years, and Beckman accepted a minimum sentence.
While he has no credit for any time served, Beckman is eligible for day-for-day good time in the Illinois Department of Corrections.
Beckman, who declined an opportunity to address Chief Judge H. Chris Ryan Jr., was immediately taken into custody to await transfer to the DOC.
