Ottawa Fire Department offers free home safety programs April 14

Smoke detector installations and Knox Box lock boxes available to city residents

Creston Fire Department is reminding the public to check their smoke detectors and make sure the batteries are working.

The Ottawa Fire Department will be out in the community for two free home safety programs for any residents within city limits on Tuesday, April 14.

The department will offer free smoke detector installations, with devices provided by the American Red Cross and installed by the department’s public education team.

They will also provide installation of residential Knox Boxes, which are secure lock boxes that store a key to a home and can be accessed by firefighters during emergencies. The boxes are designed to assist residents with mobility issues, those prone to falls and older adults.

Residents interested in either program can call the Ottawa Fire Department at 815-434-3785, ext. 5, to schedule an appointment.
