Spring Cleaning Essentials: A Top to Bottom Refresh

Merry Maids of Sycamore - Spring Cleaning Essentials: A Top to Bottom Refresh

April is the season most people think of when they hear the words “spring cleaning,” and for good reason. With warmer weather, open windows, and more daylight, it’s the perfect time to give your home a refresh. At Merry Maids, we often remind our customers that spring cleaning doesn’t have to mean doing everything at once. We recommend tackling one area at a time so as not to overwhelm yourself!

A good place to start is with areas that don’t get attention during regular cleanings. Dust builds up on ceiling fans, vents, and shelves, and let’s not forget the tops of cabinets, throughout the winter months. Cleaning these areas first helps keep dust from settling on surfaces below.

Windows are another must-do in April (weather permitting). Clean glass lets in more sunlight and instantly makes your home brighter. Don’t forget to wipe your window sills and tracks where dirt tends to hide.

Spring Cleaning Checklist:

  • Dust ceiling fans, vents, and light fixtures
  • Wipe doors, trim, and baseboards
  • Clean windows, mirrors, and window tracks
  • Mop hard-surface floors to remove winter buildup
  • It’s always a good idea to disinfect high-touch areas like switches and handles

Equipment Checklist:

  • Microfiber cloths, extendable duster for hard-to-reach areas, spray bottle with vinegar water, and a vacuum with attachments

Spring is also a great time to refresh fabrics. Curtains, throw blankets, and upholstered furniture can hold dust and odors from the colder months. Review your labels first, as it may be as simple as throwing these items in your dryer for a refresh. Cleaning these items can help improve the feel of your home.

Whether you tackle it yourself or bring in a helping hand, a thorough April cleaning sets the tone for a brighter, more comfortable home all throughout the spring season.
