Illinois COVID-19 patients in the ICU drops under 200 for first time since July

State’s positivity rate down to 1.7% on first day without a state mask mandate since August

For the first time since Aug. 1, Illinois has fewer than 1,000 COVID-19 patients in the hospital, according to new data from the Illinois Department of Public Health.

As of late Sunday, Illinois had 943 COVID-19 patients in the hospital. Of those, 157 were in intensive care units, the fewest since July 25 and 82 were on ventilators.

The IDPH reported 4,483 new confirmed and probable cases of COVID-19 and 109 additional deaths for Friday, Saturday and Sunday combined. The IDPH does not update its data dashboard on weekends.

The state’s seven-day rolling average for new cases dropped to 1,831 new cases per day, the lowest average since Aug. 1. On Saturday, the state had 816 new confirmed cases, the first day with fewer than 1,000 new cases since July 21.

All of this comes as Illinois has its first day without an indoor statewide mask mandate since August.

For Friday-Sunday, the state administered 35,868 shots.

The state received the results of 306,397 COVID-19 tests for Friday-Sunday. The state’s positivity rate dropped to 1.7%

Illinois has seen 3,031,220 total cases of the virus, and 32,763 people have died. The state has conducted a total of 54,645,376 tests since the start of the pandemic.

Vaccine update: As of Monday, the IDPH reported a total of 23,822,265 doses of COVID-19 vaccines have been distributed statewide, with 21,106,414 vaccines administered.

As of Monday, 8,118,404 Illinoisans have been fully vaccinated, or 63.72% of the population. Illinois has a population of 12,741,080 people.

Also, 4,147,259 people have received a booster dose, or 32.55% of the state’s population. Among 5- to 11-year-olds, 39.38% have received at least one vaccine dose and 33.33% are fully vaccinated.

There can be as much as a 72-hour delay in reporting from health care providers on vaccines administered.

Regional update: All 11 regions in the state are in Phase 5.

Regional data from the IDPH remains on a three-day lag.

The North Suburban (McHenry and Lake counties) region’s positivity rate decreased to 3.5%. Currently, 25% of ICU beds are available.

Within this region, McHenry County’s seven-day positivity rate average decreased to 4.3%. Lake County, which does about two-thirds of the testing in the region, is reporting a rolling average of 3.2%.

Hospitalizations have decreased or remained stable 10 out of the past 10 days in this region. The region is down to a total of 66 COVID-19 patients in the hospital.

The West Suburban (DuPage and Kane counties) region’s positivity rate decreased to 3.0%. Currently, 27% of ICU beds are available.

Within this region, Kane County’s seven-day positivity rate decreased to 2.9%, and DuPage County’s stayed decreased to 3.0%.

Hospitalizations decreased or remained stable 10 out of the past 10 days in this region. The region is down to 96 total COVID-19 patients in the hospital.

The South Suburban (Will and Kankakee counties) region’s positivity rate stayed flat at 2.9%. Currently, 23% of ICU beds are available.

Hospitalizations decreased or remained stable 10 out of the past 10 days in this region. The region is down to 42 total COVID-19 patients in the hospital.

The North (Boone, Carroll, DeKalb, Jo Daviess, Lee, Ogle, Stephenson, Whiteside and Winnebago counties) region’s positivity rate decreased to 3.4%.

Currently, 19% of ICU beds are available.

Within this region, DeKalb County’s positivity rate fell to 2.5%, Lee County’s rate decreased to 1.4%, and Whiteside County’s went down to 3.1%.

Hospitalizations decreased or remained stable 10 out of the past 10 days in this region. The region is down to 68 total COVID-19 hospitalizations.

The North-Central (Bureau, Fulton, Grundy, Henderson, Henry, Kendall, Knox, La Salle, Livingston, Marshall, McDonough, McLean, Mercer, Peoria, Putnam, Rock Island, Stark, Tazewell, Warren and Woodford counties) region’s positivity rate decreased to 2.5%.

Within this region, La Salle County’s seven-day positivity rate decreased to 2.0%. Currently, 23% of ICU beds are available. Hospitalizations decreased or remained stable for 10 out of the past 10 days. The region is down to a total of 116 COVID-19 patients in the hospital.

Chicago’s positivity rate stayed flat at 1.3%. Currently, 17% of ICU beds are available. Hospitalizations decreased or remained stable for 10 out of the past 10 days.

Suburban Cook County’s positivity rate fell to 1.8%. Currently, 18% of ICU beds are available. Hospitalizations decreased or remained stable 10 out of the past 10 days in this region.
