Body discovered at Three Oaks Recreation Area leads to suspicious death investigation

Several people are in custody after Crystal Lake police discovered the body of a 51-year-old man floating in the water at Three Oaks Recreation Area.

Officers responded at 2:59 p.m. Tuesday to the 6100 block of Northwest Highway after receiving a 911 call. When they arrived, they found three people at the scene, one of whom appeared to be covered in blood, according to a news release police sent Tuesday evening.

Further investigation led police to a secluded wooded inlet on the west side of Three Oaks Recreation Area where they discovered the body of a man floating in the water, according to the release. The McHenry County Coroner’s Office had not released the man’s name as of Tuesday evening.

Police believe the man and the subjects in custody were acquaintances. Investigators described the situation as an isolated incident that presented no existing danger to public. No charges have been filed.

Police are expected to release more information as it becomes available through the ongoing investigation.
