Crystal Lake man pleads guilty to sex abuse, child pornography charges

A 24-year-old Crystal Lake man was sentenced to prison Tuesday after pleading guilty to possessing and soliciting child pornography.

Joshua G. Dancy accepted a plea offer from the McHenry County State’s Attorney’s Office and entered guilty pleas to soliciting child pornography, possessing child pornography and multiple charges of aggravated criminal sexual abuse. McHenry County Judge Robert Wilbrandt in turn sentenced Dancy to 15 years in prison on Tuesday during the hearing.

The charges are rooted in a May 2019 Crystal Lake Police Department investigation. About that time, officers received a report alleging that Dancy has sexually abused two children months prior, according to a news release the McHenry County State’s Attorney’s Office emailed Tuesday.

A search of the Dancy’s cellphone led police to discovering two additional potential victims, as well as images and videos of child pornography, prosecutors said.

As a condition of his sentence, Dancy also must register for life as a sex offender. Such a designation carries other restrictions on Dancy, as well.
