Roundup: Oswego softball wins share of SPC, first conference title since 1987

SOFTBALL

Oswego

Winning pitcher Nicolette Evans struck out six in four no-hit innings, and also slugged a grand slam for the Panthers in a 15-0 win over Joliet Central on May 15. Becky Pieroni and Megan Maruna also homered and each drove in three runs for Oswego.

The Panthers won a share of the Southwest Prairie Conference championship, their first conference title since 1987.

Oswego East

Grace Klingbeil struck out four and allowed just three hits for the Wolves (23-10, 11-6) in a 9-0 win over Plainfield Central on May 15.

Carly Engelhardt led the offense, going 2-for-2 with a walk, single and a bases-clearing double. Lexi McCauley went 2-for-4 with two singles and three RBIs and Mady Johnson was 2-for-3 with a walk, two singles and three runs scored.

BASEBALL

Oswego

JD Miller went 2-for-3 with a double, run scored and two RBIs for the Panthers (17-14) in a 6-3 loss to St. Charles East in the regular season finale Monday. Garry Maynard doubled and drove in a run for Oswego.

Cal Hejza went 3-for-4 with a run scored and RBI in a 4-3 loss to Plainfield South on May 16. Miller went 2-for-4 with a double and an RBI. Plainfield scored a run in the seventh for the win.

Oswego East

Connor Gill had two hits for the Wolves in a 3-1 loss to Minooka on May 15. The Wolves lost their regular season finale to the Indians 16-10 on May 16.

BOYS TENNIS

Oswego

Oswego sophomore Gabriel Sardo qualified for the state tennis meet with a fourth-place finish at sectionals. Sardo beat Waubonsie Valley's Tejas Saltpalkar and Plainfield East's Brandon Dudzik by 6-0, 6-0 scores.
