The Yorkville tennis team won the Northern Illinois Big 12 conference championship Monday at Rochelle.
At No. 1 doubles seniors Sam Clough and Briggs Krempski won their championship in straight sets. At No. 1 singles freshman Ryan Waugh placed second. At No. 2 doubles senior Zack Nauman and junior John Gruber placed second. At No. 3 doubles juniors Adam Borowick and Matt Fries placed second. At No. 2 singles junior Austin Fallon won in straight sets for third place.
Yorkville won 35 points at the tournament to overtake Sterling, taking the conference title for the third nine in the nine-year existence of the league.
SOFTBALL
Newark: Sophie Schomer struck out nine over four innings and Emily Schofield had four hits and five RBIs as the Norsemen beat Wesminster Christian 18-0 in a Class 1A Newak Regional semifinal Tuesday.
BASEBALL
Parkview Christian: Zach Knaus threw all five innings for Parkview in a 13-2, five-inning win over Westminster Christian on Monday at the Class 1A Harvest Christian Regional, Parkview’s first-ever regional game.
