Panera Bread plans to fill the Jefferson Street restaurant vacated by Applebee’s last year.

The Joliet City Council on Tuesday is slated to vote on a drive-thru facility for a Panera Bread restaurant at 2400 W. Jefferson St.

Applebee's closed at the location in June.

The building is part of the Menards-Walmart shopping center, which also includes a Starbucks. Panera will use the existing building for its restaurant, according to a staff memo on the agenda item.

It would be the third Joliet location for Panera Bread, which also has restaurants in the Louis Joliet Mall and in a shopping center at Route 59 and Caton Farm Road.

Other items on the agenda for Tuesday include votes on:

• The $3.7 million sales tax rebate package proposed for the CarMax dealership planned for the corner of Route 59 and Theodore Street.

• An increase in fees charged for ambulance services provided by the Joliet Fire Department to people who do not live in Joliet.

• A memorandum of understanding between Joliet and the state of Illinois for the future installation of traffic signals at Route 53 and Emerald Drive.

• A Tax Increment Financing District to provide incentives and support for redevelopment of the former Silver Cross Hospital campus.

• A liquor license to open Johnny’s, a sports bar with pool tables proposed for 1008 N. Hickory St.

• A liquor license for beer and wine sales at the K Ribs & BBQ restaurant located at 221 N. Chicago St.
