Republican Tom Weber of Lake Villa will represent the state’s 64th District in the House.
Weber overcame Democrat Trisha Zubert of Volo, a former school board president. Weber previously served on the Lake County Board.
The 64th District includes portions of McHenry and Lake counties. Weber won 22,276 votes, compared with Zubert’s 16,294, according to unofficial vote totals from McHenry and Lake counties.
“We’re very excited,” Weber said Tuesday night. “We worked really hard, and we really concentrated on working a clean campaign.”
State Rep. Barbara Wheeler, R-Crystal Lake, did not seek re-election. Weber said he wants to bring leadership to Springfield.
“I think there’s always a lack of leadership, and if you have someone who has good ideas and is willing to fight for something, people will follow that,” Weber said. “That’s what I’m hoping to bring.”
Weber said Zubert ran a good campaign.
“She worked hard, and I have to tell you that I respect anyone who runs for office,” Weber said. “It’s not an easy thing to do. People don’t realize that.”
