Boys Volleyball: Ben Jorgensen, Wolves break program win record

Oswego East takes Metea Valley Invite title

Ben Jorgensen is Oswego East’s catalyst, and its rock.

Jorgensen, a senior, has been the Wolves’ libero the last two years. He helped lead them into the record books last weekend.

Oswego East went 5-0 to win the Metea Valley Invitational, and in doing so eclipsed last year’s school record for wins in a season.

The Wolves (22-9) beat Neuqua Valley 25-13, 13-25, 25-19 in the semifinals and Wheaton North 25-10, 25-21 in the final.

Jorgensen had six aces, tied for a team-high, a team-best 34 digs and passed a 2.15 for the weekend.

“Having him back there is great insurance for us,” Wolves coach Brian Zerfas said. “As the season has gone on the defense and back row leadership has continued to improve. Ben’s been phenomenal.”

Beating a pair of top 20 teams was a huge statement for the Wolves, who are currently 9-2 in the Southwest Prairie Conference.

“Neuqua is a powerhouse, they have great players,” Zerfas said. “They made some untimely errors and they were able to capitalize.”

Zeke Rivera had a team-high 28 kills, Sam Behnke led Oswego East with 93 assists and Collin Harrison had 26 kills for the tournament.

“The [Harrison] twins got hot this weekend,” Zerfas said. “This is the time of the year you want to get hot. Any time we can come out and beat two top 20 teams in the state, we are thrilled. This group has done a really good job of rallying together.”
