Roundup: Sewruk spins one-hitter with 11 strikeouts for Foxes' baseball

BASEBALL

Yorkville varsity: Stephen Sewruk (7-0) allowed just one hit and struck out 11 over five innings as Yorkville beat Coal City 7-1 on May 18. At the plate Mark Sommers was 2-for-4 with two doubles, an RBI and run scored and Ty Liaromatis and Brendon Reifsteck each had two hits, an RBI and run scored for Yorkville (28-4).

Yorkville sophomores: Keagan Davey struck out six and allowed three hits over four innings for the Foxes (11-15) in a 5-0 loss to Coal City on May 18.

Wyatt Murphy went 4-for-5 with two runs scored and two RBIs, Jaelen Childs 2-for-4 with a double and run scored, Davey 4-for-5 with a double and RBI and Collin Boyd 2-for-4 with a run scored and RBI in Yorkville's 9-8 loss to Plainfield East on May 16.

SOFTBALL

Yorkville varsity: Brittany Thomas and Ally Martin both went 2-for-3, and Yorkville had a six-run fourth inning to beat Hampshire 8-5 on May 18.Hannah Bazan, Katie Marker and Hayle Reyes all had doubles for the Foxes (15-14). On the mound Marker scattered seven hits, striking out five.

Yorkville sophomores: Amber Dasenbrock scattered eight hits and allowed zero runs, and Yorkville (24-2) beat Geneseo 17-2 in its last conference game on March 16. Lauren Howard threw a no-hitter and Yorkville tallied 12 hits of its own to beat St. Francis 14-0 on May 15.
