DOWNERS GROVE – Paradise Cafe at 5130 Main St. in Downers Grove immediately catches the eye with its bright blue and green storefront.

Inside the downtown breakfast and lunch cafe, the bright blues and greens of the storefront continue, and tropical murals and paintings are featured on the walls to encapsulate the feeling of a tropical paradise.

Paradise Cafe opened in July 2015 and used to be Kristina's Cafe. The cafe came under new ownership and gained a new name in 2015, but it kept the same menu.

"We have a lot of customers who used to come when it was Kristina's," manager Nancy Diaz said. "I think they still come because of our waitress Denise, who still works here with us and is a favorite among our customers."

The restaurant also gives back to the community of Downers Grove by donating to local organizations.

"We do a lot of donations to the high schools and also to the fire department," Diaz said.

Signs for local events and happenings are posted in the restaurant, making it a good place for residents to get information.

The restaurant is known for its breakfast and lunch fare. It is open from 7 a.m. to 3 p.m. seven days a week. It also boasts "the best coffee in town" with its 100-percent Colombian coffee.

With a variety of breakfast and lunch options, there are a lot of choices for customers. Diaz said the "make your own omelette" option is a favorite among guests.

"[Customers] also like the spicy chicken wrap and the 'Avalon Sunset' sandwich," Diaz said.

On GrubHub, the Avalon Sunset sandwich also is listed as a favorite; the sandwich has grilled chicken, bacon, avocado, tomato and Swiss cheese.

Other menu options include salads, pancakes, waffles, crepes, soup, burgers and skillets.
