All-area girls soccer team includes York, Glenbard East, IC, TC players

Meet Suburban Life Media's 2015 selections

The girls soccer season is officially over after two state championship games on June 6 put and end to the campaign. Now is the perfect time to honor the best players with Suburban Life Media’s all-area team.

Jessica Bianchi

School: York

Year: Senior

Impact: Speed kills and Bianchi had plenty of it, but the forward also had good goal-scoring instincts. She used that deadly combination to be named all-state by the Illinois High School Soccer Coaches Association.

Jessica Budig

School: Willowbrook

Year: Senior

Impact: The senior forward led the Warriors' attack this season en route to an honorable mention all-sectional selection by the IHSSCA. Budig was also an all-conference player in the West Suburban Gold this year for Willowbrook.

Sierra Dana

School: Glenbard East

Year: Junior

Impact: The Rams had 12 shutouts this season and Dana was the main reason why. The junior goalkeeper provided a steady presence as a second-year starter and a is good athlete in between the posts.

Hannah Hartnett

School: IC Catholic

Year: Senior

Impact: Hartnett was a four-year varsity player for the Knights and was also a standout volleyball player in the fall. This spring she had 18 goals and 11 assists, both team-highs, to lead the Knights to a third straight sectional final.

Alyssa Kovatchis

School: York

Year: Senior

Impact: The All-Area MVP was one of the best playmakers in the area. The four-year varsity player's ability to make a key pass or beat a defender in a one-on-one situation created a lot of big plays for the Dukes.

Erin Maloney

School: IC Catholic

Year: Senior

Impact: The all-conference defender started on the Knights' girls basketball team that went to state, but she may have played a bigger role on the soccer field. Coach Tod Privett called her the strongest center back in the conference.

Brittany Paganucci

School: Glenbard East

Year: Junior

Impact: In her third year on varsity, Paganucci continued to pile on the stats. She scored 20 goals and had 12 assists in just 16 games to bring her career totals to 46 goals and 34 assists. She was an IHSSCA all-sectional pick for the second year in a row and served as a team captain.

Toni Paterno

School: Timothy Christian

Year: Junior

Impact: The Trojans' leading scorer was a Metro Suburban all-conference performer and helped lead the team to its first regional title since 2009. Paterno, a forward, was one of two juniors to be all-conference for Timothy Christian this spring.

Holly Ward

School: Glenbard East

Year: Junior

Impact: Ward emerged as a key attacking player for the Rams this spring. She scored six goals and had 13 assists while being named first team all-conference in the Upstate Eight and honorable mention all-sectional by the IHSSCA.

Emily Whitcomb

School: York

Year: Senior

Impact: Whitcomb is headed to Belmont to continue her career in college. This year she split time between defense and midfield while the Dukes battled injuries. She was an Illinois High School Soccer Coaches Association all-sectional selection.

Natalie Wolski

School: Willowbrook

Year: Senior

Impact: Wolski was a key midfielder for the Warriors, earning IHSSCA all-sectional honors along the way. As one of just three seniors on the team, Wolski's ability and experience was crucial for Willowbrook.
