Two men in critical condition after a.m. crash

LAKE BARRINGTON – Two Barrington men are in critical condition after they were involved in a car accident Thursday morning at the intersection of Route 14 and Cuba Road.

Shortly before 7:45 a.m., Joseph Fiedler, 24, was driving a 2004 Nissan, with 23-year-old Kirk Breneisen, as they were going northwest on Route 14.

Fiedler was attempting to turn left onto Cuba Road, when Andrea Dotoli, 31, of Cary, who was driving a 2006 Volkwagon, crashed into the Nissan's passenger side.

Breneisen was extricated from the vehicle and had to be flown via Flight for Life to Advocate Condell Medical Center in Libertyville with major traumatic injuries to his entire body, said Lt. Christopher Thompson of the Lake County Sheriff's Office.

Breneisen was in critical condition.

Fiedler was taken to Advocate Good Shepherd in Barrington, where he was in critical condition, said hospital spokeswoman Ro Ostergaard.

Dotoli was treated and released at the scene.

The road was reopened to traffic about 9:30 a.m.

Thompson said the the citations will more than likely will be issued, but the accident is still under investigation.

There was no indication of drugs or alcohol at the scene, Thompson said.
