Jennifer Bubrick, 31, of Dixon, is a full-time student at Northern Illinois University, an executive assistant at Country Insurance, a Dixon Main Street volunteer and a Petunia Festival board member. She is the daughter of Deb and Bruce Bubrick; and has a sister, Erin Knapp, of Verona, Wis.
On-the-job lesson: Don’t get snarky with people. They may be having a really hard day and you don’t know why.
Alma mater: I graduated from high school in Kentucky, in 1996. I got my bachelor’s degree in psychology from Northern Illinois University; now I’m working on a bachelor’s in special education.
Philosophy: Just give back. Life’s not all about taking.
Oughta be a law: Everybody is a person, regardless of sexuality, race or creed. We’re all people.
Hearts: I love puppy breath, a good hug and Heineken beer.
Darts: People who don’t use their turn signals, and people who volunteer and then don’t show up.
Haunts: Books on First. I love the ambiance. Shamrock Pub, for its burgers. And the Murray’s house, for the chaos – they have four kids.
First job: I worked in a clothing store in Kentucky when I was 16. My mom and dad freaked out because I had to drive 30 miles each way.
First car: A ’91 Ford Tempo.
Read this: “Have a Seat, Please,” by Don Reid. It’s a nonfiction book about death row inmates. The person who told the story actually cared about the people who died; he didn’t treat them as inmates.
People say I look like: Sandra Bullock.
Phobia: Dark water.
Guilty pleasure: Nutty Bars. I will eat a whole box of those things.
I’d like to meet: Peter Jennings, because he has met everybody.
In the dictionary next to: Quirky. I don’t think you ever know what I’m going to do.
Trading places: I’d be Heidi Klum. She’s got 6-mile-long legs and she’s smoking hot, and she’s married to Seal. Or Mitch Tucker, the manager at Sherwin-Williams. He puts up with so much every day and I don’t know how he does it.
Trading spaces: I would go on an African safari.
Best thing about Dixon: Community spirit.
Shout out to: All my fellow volunteers who show up.
