Nearly 100 cyclists biked from Normal through La Salle County to DeKalb on Saturday, July 12, for Day 3 of Cycle Across Illinois, a charity campaign to honor fallen police officers and raise funds for their families. The group was led into town by DeKalb County Sheriff Andy Sullivan. They're expected to bike through the suburbs and end in Chicago Sunday after nearly 400 miles.

One of McHenry County's signature events The Lakeside Festival, got underway Thursday, July 3, 2025, on the grounds of the historic Dole Mansion in Crystal Lake. The fest runs through Sunday. Crystal Lake's Independence Day Parade takes place from 1 to 3 p.m. Sunday down Dole Avenue to the festival, and the fireworks display over the lake off Main Beach takes place at dusk Sunday.
Cafe Olympic owner Rachel Skubiszewski has opened Black Market Bakery right next door at 86 N. Williams St. in Crystal Lake. It's open-concept, where customers can see bakers working on goods from scratch and bringing items into display cases.
