Ottawa softball smacks four homers in victory over Coal City in 2011; Streator boys top L-P in boys track dual in 1976

The Ottawa softball team clubbed four homers in a 14-2 victory over Coal City. Rachel Kindred (three RBIs), Amanda Walker, Lindsey Greene, and Asya Williams (three RBIs) all had round-trippers for the Pirates, Brittany Terando a pair of RBI singles, Kelli Sanders an RBI double, and Bree Carlson a run-scoring single. Lindsey Loughe earned the win in the circle with six strikeouts in as many innings.

The Woodland/Flanagan-Cornell softball squad slipped past Ridgeview 5-4 in 12 innings. Warriors’ winning pitcher Sara Spaniol went the distance allowing just five hits and fanning nine, while Sydney Walker posted four hits and an RBI.

The Serena softball club blanked Amboy, 2-0. Huskers’ winning pitcher Karly Huss fired a one-hitter with a trio of strikeouts, while Katie Huss and Kelissa Peterson each collected a pair of hits.

The Streator baseball team scored the winning run on a wild pitch in the bottom of the seventh to edge Dixon, 7-6. Brandon VanDuzer had three hits, including a solo homer for the Bulldogs, Brooks Martin had two hits, including a two-run blast, and earned the pitching win in relief, and Mitch McMeen doubled.

At the Interstate Eight Conference girls track and field championships, Seneca’s Lizz Carlson (high jump) and Miranda Kennedy (pole vault) claimed titles, as did Sandwich’s Marlana Haeflin (1600-meter run).

The Streator boys track team defeated La Salle-Peru 81-65 in a dual meet. The Bulldogs received first-place finishes from Mike Martin (mile and two-mile runs), Dave Pellegrine (high jump), Craig Armstrong (100), Rick Pierzchala (440), Kevin Bethard (330 low hurdles), Jeff Hardgrove (220), Terry Beer (triple jump), Mike Hood (shot put), and Eric Isermann (long jump).
