The DeKalb farmers market opened for its 30th season with a special grand ribbon cutting Thursday in Frank Van Buer Plaza in downtown DeKalb. The market runs on Thursdays through September, and offers an array of food, handmade crafts and goods, produce and other items from dozens of local vendors.

Tammy McMahan, founder and executive director of the Ruth Project along with her daughter , Ashley, storehouse manager with the organization, give a tour of the 33-acre farm in Sycamore that the group recently acquired. The farm offers foster families a chance to do projects together and to have a relaxing day away from the stresses that come along with being a foster family.
