The storms that swept through northern Illinois this week showed how quickly tornadoes can pop up from intense thunderstorms and quick swings in temperature. The National Weather Service confirmed 11 tornadoes from that one storm.

A National Weather Service forecast shows overnight snowfall could accumulate to 5 inches in most areas of northern Illinois. At the height of the storm, a light fluffy snow will fall at a rate of an inch per hour, which could leave roads snow covered and reduce visibility for motorists.
