Indian Valley Theatre sets auditions for ‘Dracula the Musical’

Sandwich Opera House, 140 East Railroad Street, Sandwich

Indian Valley Theatre in Sandwich plans its first auditions since 2019.

Auditions for the October production of “Dracula the Musical,” directed by Kyle Carr, will be held from 1 to 4 p.m. Saturday, July 31, and Sunday, Aug. 1, at the Historic Sandwich Opera House, 140 East Railroad St., Sandwich. Enter through the side door to the Community Room.

“Dracula the Musical,” written by Rick Abbot, is a spoof of Bram Stoker’s horror classic that will add song, dance and laughs. When the Seward family invites everyone’s favorite Transylvanian count to their sanitarium for dinner, he quickly falls for their daughter, Mina, and he’ll do anything to win her over. Could Count Dracula just so happen to be a vampire?

Auditions will consist of cold readings from the script. Come prepared to sing two songs to show vocal range. No appointment is necessary, and IVT membership is not needed to audition, although it will be required if cast. The cast will include up to 16 teens and adults ranging in age from 14 through adults. Many crew members also will be needed.

The cast list is as follows: Dr. Sam Seward, genial proprietor of a madhouse (adult preferred); Mina Sward, the doctor’s discontented daughter (teen preferred); Sophie Seward, Mina’s mother and Sam’s wife (adult preferred); Bubu Padoop, a frisky friend of the family (any age); Nelly Norton, the maid at the madhouse (any age); Boris Renfield, one of Sam’s peculiar patients (any age); Dr. Van Helsing, a stalwart exterminator (adult preferred); Count Dracula, a newcomer to the neighborhood (any age); ensemble cast (any age).

Performances of “Dracula the Musical” will begin at 7 p.m. Oct. 22, 23 and 24 at the Sandwich Opera House.
