Ice fishing event set to return to Plano’s Foli Park

An popular ice fishing event is planned to return to Plano’s Foli Park soon, with social distancing measures in place.

The 8th annual Plano/Frabill Ice Fishing event is scheduled to begin at 9 a.m. and end 3 p.m., Saturday, Jan. 16, at Foli Park, along South Hale Street.

However, Plano Mayor Bob Hausler has said that if conditions are unfavorable, or the ice covering the lake at the park is not thick enough, the day may be pushed back to one of the scheduled backup days, which include Jan. 23, Jan. 30, and Feb. 6.

“We want to make sure it’s a safe event,” Hausler said.

Safety measures will also include social distancing steps amid the continuing COVID-19 pandemic, including asking participants to space at least 6 feet apart on the lake, to follow social distancing procedures. Extra face masks will also be on hand if needed.

“We’re going to have everyone follow the (Kendall County) health department’s guidelines,” Hausler said.

There is no limit to the number of participants, Hausler added.

No matter the number of participants, social distancing guidelines should be able to be followed on the 5-acre lake.

“I believe that we’ll have room for everyone that wants to come,” he said. “Even when we’ve had our largest attendance, people have been able to be that far apart before the pandemic.”

Tickets can be purchased at the event, or beforehand at Plano City Hall, Plano Molding, or at Plano Collision.
