Free canning seminar set in Sugar Grove

What to do with all those tomatoes from your garden or farmers market that you can’t eat fast enough? Join Kathy Jankovic, former instructor of culinary arts at Geneva High School, at 7 p.m. Tuesday, Aug. 10, at the Sugar Grove Public Library for the program “I Can! So Can You Can.”

Participants will learn the art of canning, which will enable individuals to extend beyond the growing season the life of the healthy foods they grow or buy, a news release stated. During the program, Jankovic will demonstrate the steps of canning, and will answer questions from the audience. Handouts will be provided. In addition, Jankovic will explain how canned produce can be used to create many healthy dishes, such as delicious homemade Italian and Mexican sauces.

The program is presented by The Just Food Initiative of the Fox Valley, a nonprofit organization based in Batavia that is committed to building sustainable and just food systems, as well as restoring quality and equality to the food supply.
