Oswego Cemetery Walk to feature ‘ghosts’ of Oswego pioneers

There is still time to reserve your spot for the popular Oswego Cemetery Walk when it takes place from 5 to 9 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 7, at the Oswego Township Cemetery, South Main Street, Oswego.

The Oswegoland Park District, in partnership with the Oswegoland Heritage Association, will host this year’s walk. The park district invites area residents to experience community history through the stories of those who called the area home during Oswegoland’s history.

For the first time, advance registration will be required for the walk, and an attendance fee will be charged. The changes are being made to assure a fun and satisfying experience for everyone who attends, according to cemetery walk organizers.

During the past few years, the event has grown in size to the extent that there was overcrowding during the last walk in 2019. The walk was held virtually in 2020 due to the pandemic. To enjoy the online version of the 2020 walk, visit littlewhiteschoolmuseum.org/cemetery-stories.

During the walk, participants will be guided through the cemetery to visit the grave sites of “ghosts” of early Oswego residents and pioneers.

Pre-registration is required, and space is limited. Visit oswegolandparkdistrict.org to select registration time slots between 5 and 9 p.m. Oct. 7, or call the park district at 630-554-1010. Registration fee is $5.
