First Montgomery Street Eats Fest set for June 12 on Mill Street bridge

The first-ever Montgomery Street Eats Festival will take place on the Mill Street Bridge in the village’s downtown on Saturday, June 12. The 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. event will feature 10 food trucks, DJ entertainment, and a beer garden all set along the Fox River.

The event is being put on by Brew Avenue Events in partnership with the Montgomery Foundation.

“The setting is perfect, the park adjacent to the event is shaded, the river makes a great backdrop, and it is going to look awesome having all the food trucks lining the bridge,” says Brew Avenue Events owner Alessandro Vazquez.

He also suggests that event-goers bring their own blankets and chairs so they can hang out in Montgomery Park along the river and enjoy the event after they grab food from one of the food trucks.

The mobile eateries will offer a wide variety of fare such as mini doughnuts, funnel cakes and ice cream for those looking for something sweet. Served will be staple items such as grilled cheese from Cheesie’s, brick-oven pizza from Bricks on Wheels, burgers and fries from Culinary Gangster, barbecue from Kissed by Fire BBQ, and a crowd favorite – the Happy Lobster food truck’s famous lobster rolls.

A few vendors will bring culturally influenced menus such as Peruvian cuisine from Umbrella Azul, soul food from Big Mama’s Kitchen Chi, and tacos and elote from La Humita on Wheels.

“Food truck events are perfect for this time where we are transitioning back to in-person events; they give friends and family the opportunity to try new things and do it at their level of comfort,” said Kristina Nemetz, communications manager for the village. “We are hoping this event gives the community something fun and safe to do as COVID restrictions lessen and some families head out for the first time in more than a year.”

Tickets are not required for the event, but those planning on attending are asked to register online in advance if they are able. Ample parking is available in the village’s downtown. Parking and admission to the event are free. Food vendors and the beer garden will accept credit card payments. The food truck lineup is subject to change.
