Reception to launch exhibition at Water Street Studios in Batavia

The “Signature Strokes” art show opens with a reception from 6 to 9 p.m. June 11 for Second Friday at the Studio at Water Street Studios in Batavia.

The signature stroke of an artist starts with the touch of drawing media to a surface, and continues until the lift at the end of a mark, a news release stated. Each stroke, followed by another and yet another has led to the varied works of art on display.

The artists showcased

Artists in the show include Javier Chavira, Margie Glass Sula, Alice McMahon, Colin Sherrell, John Gutierrez, Jeff Stevenson and Cesar Conde.

In the past, there was a straightforward division between drawing and other art forms, the release stated, noting, “As you look, the more you can see how difficult it is to describe exactly what drawing is. In this exhibit, we included drawing that encompasses all aspects of art ranging from ostensibly simple gesture, contour drawing and journal sketches to elaborate works of detail, and even drawing that becomes three-dimensional. Drawing has many voices … "

Masks are required for the event. A cash bar will be available.
