Giles, the former N.L. President and club president and general manager of the Cincinnati Reds, is a Bureau County native, born in Tiskilwa in 1896.

Giles served as N.L. President from 1951-69, longer than any other president. He was inducted into the National Baseball Hall of Fame in 1979. Giles, who passed away Feb. 7, 1979 in Cincinnati, returned to Tiskilwa occasionally, BCR records show.

His son, Bill, 86, was the Chairman Emeritus and former part-time owner of the Philadelphia Phillies.
