Breaking: DeKalb County buildings closed all day because of weather

Have a court date or an appointment at the DeKalb County Health Department this afternoon? Not happening.

County officials have announced that the county's buildings, which were going to open at noon today, will now be closed all day because of the frigid weather.

According to the National Weather Service, temperatures aren't supposed to reach the positives until after midnight.

Northern Illinois University, Kishwaukee College and all the county's public school district's are also closed today. The low for DeKalb County is expected to be minus 32, with wind chills reaching minus 48 or lower, NWS Meteorologist Todd Kuber said Wednesday.

The Voluntary Action Center’s services, including Meals on Wheels and public transit, again are canceled Thursday.

The Kishwaukee Family YMCA, 2500 W. Bethany Road, still plans to open at 5 a.m., but no classes or programs scheduled before 2 p.m. – including Kids Zone and the No School, No Problem – will happen.

Cardiac and pulmonary rehab services at Northwestern Medicine Kishwaukee Hospital and Valley West Hospitals are canceled Thursday.
