High school football: Week 5 results; recaps for every game

Nazareth 41, Carmel 0: Freshman quarterback Logan Malachuk was 9-of-9 through the air for 215 yards and four touchdowns, all in the first half, and Quentrell Harris caught two TD passes and returned a punt for a score in a 41-0 win over Carmel.

York 14, Lyons 7: Junior quarterback Matt Vezza stepped up again for York Friday, throwing for 163 yards and a touchdown and running for 71 as the Dukes continued their unbeaten start with a hard-fought 14-7 win over Lyons.

Wheaton Warrenville South 24, St. Charles East 7: Wheaton Warrenville South’s defense intercepted three passes and had four sacks, its defense dominant in a bounce-back 24-7 win over St. Charles East on Friday.

Hinsdale South 24, Morton 14: Griffin Carr and the Hinsdale South defense shut out Morton in the second half and held the Mustangs to minus-23 yards of offense to come away with a 24-14 West Suburban Gold win on Homecoming.

Glenbard South 34, Larkin 7: Cam Williams caught two TD passes, and the Raiders showed no rust in having their Week 4 game canceled as Glenbard South rolled past Larkin 34-7.

South Elgin 41, Glenbard East 7: The Storm recovered a Glenbard East fumble on the first play from scrimmage, and South Elgin rode a dominant running game that gained 400 yards on the ground and a stingy defense to roll in the matchup of Upstate Eight Conference unbeatens.

Loyola 27, Fenwick 24: The No. 1-ranked Maroons made a 42-yard field goal as time expired to edge the upset-minded Friars. Fenwick had tied it 24-24 with 5:37 left on Kaden Cobb’s 30-yard fourth-down TD pass to Max Reese.

Hinsdale Central 38, Oak Park-River Forest 20: The Red Devils (4-1, 2-0) picked up a hard-fought road victory for their fourth win in a row.

Willowbrook 36, Leyden 7: The Warriors (3-2, 3-0) scored 22 unanswered points in the second half to pull away with the West Suburban Gold win.

Downers Grove South 37, Proviso East 14: The Mustangs (1-4, 1-1) picked up their first win of the season.

Downers Grove North 42, Proviso West 0: The Trojans (4-1, 1-1) picked up the road win in Hillside.

St. Francis 51, Thornridge 0: The Spartans (4-1) rolled in the makeup game.

Glenbard West 56, Addison Trail 0: Joey Pope and Jason Thomas each had three touchdowns in the first half for the Hilltoppers (5-0).
