A portion of South Chicago Street in Joliet is closed because of a semitrailer fire, police said

On Thursday, Route 53, otherwise known as South Chicago Street, was closed between Doris Avenue and Laraway Road for the semitrailer fire, according to the Joliet Police Department.

Police are asking motorists to consider an alternate route.
