Sterling batted around before recording an out in the second inning Thursday on its way to a 13-0, five-inning Western Big 6 win over Rock Island Alleman.

The sport of swimming first brought Kyle and Jamie Ruiz together in third grade. The 2004 Sterling graduates, who reconnected through swimming after college and eventually got married, are still giving back today as teachers and coaches.

Drake Cole pitched a one-hitter as Newman tallied 10 hits and 10 walks in the road win. Sterling baseball fell to Quincy, Fulton won 15-0, Gianna Vance led Newman to a win, Fulton softball beat Orion 4-3 and more in Wednesday's Sauk Valley roundup.

Sterling softball had a hit-fest in Galesburg to win 30-4. Rock Falls softball also won, Morrison's Bella Duncan pitched a no-hitter, Sterling baseball beat Bureau Valley and more in Tuesday's Sauk Valley roundup.

The big hit eluded Dixon on Tuesday as the Dukes fell 5-2 to North Boone for the second straight day. Mistakes were also costly in a matchup of two teams toward the top of the Big Northern Conference standings.
