OREGON – A portion of Route 2 between Oregon and Dixon was closed to traffic Tuesday afternoon because of a two-car collision at the entrance of the Castle Rock overlook in Castle Rock State Park.
Oregon fire crews said occupants in the vehicles were treated at the scene and did not need to be taken to a medical facility.
The Ogle County Sheriff’s Office said deputies responded to the crash in the 3000 block at 2:48 p.m.
An initial investigation determined that a southbound vehicle driven by Ismael Barrios, 23, of Mt. Morris, failed to yield when turning left and was struck by a northbound vehicle driven by Cody Stahl, 29, of Amboy, deputies said. Barrios’ vehicle then overturned in the east ditch.
Barrios and Stahl suffered minor injuries. A passenger in Barrios’ vehicle, Bonnie Chapman, 26, of Mt. Morris, also had minor injuries.
Deputies were assisted by the Illinois Department of Natural Resources, the Illinois Department of Transportation and Oregon Fire/EMS.
Barrios was issued citations for failure to yield when turning left, operating an uninsured motor vehicle and driving with expired registration.
