Newman basketball beat Bureau Valley 59-48 as John Rowzee led the way with 18 points. Sterling wrestling and Dixon boys bowling also had wins in Wednesday's Sauk Valley roundup.

Eastland boys basketball beat Forreston 46-44 in overtime as Parker Krogman scored 16 points. Sterling's Sarah Doughty bowled a 722 and more in Monday's Sauk Valley roundup.

Oregon boys basketball is 2-0 after Cooper Johnson and Benny Olalde combined for 37 points. Rock Falls fell in the closing seconds, West Carroll beat Milledgeville, Polo's Cam Jones scored 25 and more in Wednesday's Sauk Valley roundup.

Asher Ernst scored 21 points in his Newman debut on Wednesday. The Comets look to be a challenge to defend this season with a lineup full of capable scorers and defenders.

Free-throw disparity and a lopsided fourth quarter cost Sterling's girls basketball team in its Western Big 6 Conference opener against Rock Island. Sterling fell 59-53 after leading by as many as 14 points.
