What is it like to be an esthetician?

For Kathe Malinowski, being an esthetician is more than a job. It’s a calling.

“While growing up I battled with acne and I knew how mortifying it was as a teen to have skin issues,” she said.

Her first major job post college was as a flight attendant for Delta.

“My favorite thing to do on layovers in different cities was to go get facials,” Malinowski said.

She decided to turn that passion into a career.

“I went back to school for esthetics and worked part-time while my kids were young,” she said.

Now a lead esthetician and marketing manager for Eterna MedSpa & Laser Vein Center, Malinowski is still happy she made the decision more than two decades ago to pursue becoming a licensed skin care specialist.

“I really enjoy my position as an esthetician at Eterna,” she said. “I help teens and adults get on a good regimen for their skin and see them regularly to help them maintain their goals.”

Just some of the services she offers include facials, laser hair removal, microneedling, laser skin rejuvenation, BroadBand Light Photorejuvenation, a light-based technology which targets sun damage, and waxing.

“I like to start my initial meeting with new clients with a Visia skin analysis to see what is going on with their skin,” Malinowski said.

A Visia machine is able to take photos of the top layer of the skin, as well as the deeper, dermal layers.

“From there we go over their goals that relate to their Visia results,” she said.

Malinowski also helps her clients build a good skin care routine with products and treatments.

“We often rescan with the Visia after so they can see how they have improved their skin,” Malinowski said. She enjoys helping people look and feel their best.

“My job is rewarding when clients, especially those battling acne, tell me they have noticed a big difference in their skin,” Malinowski said.
