Silver Cross Hospital in New Lenox broke ground last week on a future 20,000-square-foot outpatient care center at the southeast corner of U.S. Route 30 and Owens Road in Mokena.

The single-story medical office building will provide urgent care services and physician offices, according to a news release. It is expected to open in September.

Silver Cross Hospital said the future facility is the first phase of its vision for a comprehensive medical campus in Mokena. Irgens is the developer of the new medical office building and oversees all elements of the design.

“At Silver Cross we’re always advancing and finding ways to better serve our communities,” Ruth Colby, Silver Cross Hospital’s president and CEO, said in the release. “We’re thrilled to partner with Irgens on this beautiful new facility that will bring needed urgent care services and physician offices to the residents of Mokena and surrounding areas. We look forward to opening and serving patients in the fall.”

Colby was joined by other local officials and community members at the ground breaking.

“That’s just down the road from a new senior citizens’ complex we built, so this will be a perfect location to serve those residents,” Mokena Mayor Frank Fleischer said in the release, adding he was thrilled when Colby reached out last fall, expressing interest in expanding the hospital’s services to Mokena.

He said the facility will bring more than 100 people to the village daily.

In addition to the main hospital campus in New Lenox, Silver Cross also offers outpatient services in Homer Glen, Lemont, Joliet, Manhattan and Lockport.
